Unipolar And Bipolar Technology
Leave a message
The Electrosurgery equipment has two technologies: unipolar and bipolar. All Electrosurgery instruments are designed around these two technologies.
01 Monopole technology
The unipolar technology is usually composed of Electrosurgery equipment host, action electrode (unipolar handle) and circuit electric plate (neutral electrode). During operation, the high-frequency current generated by the host of the Electrosurgery equipment is transmitted to the target tissue through the unipolar handle, then to the neutral electrode through the human body, and finally flows back to the host of the equipment to form a working circuit.
Common unipolar technology accessories include electric knife pen, unipolar electric hook, argon knife handle, and unipolar vaporization electric cutting ring.
02 bipolar technology
When working with bipolar technology, it usually consists of two parts: the surgical equipment host and the acting electrode (bipolar instrument).
During operation, the high-frequency current generated by the device host is emitted through one pole of the bipolar device, reaches the other pole through human tissue, and finally returns to the device host, forming a working circuit. At this point, the tissues and cells between the two poles of the bipolar instrument rupture or solidify and dry, thereby achieving the purpose of disconnection or hemostasis. In bipolar mode, one end of the electrode is the acting electrode and the other end is the receiving electrode. When using a bipolar device, there is no need to use a neutral electrode, and its function is limited to between the two poles of the device. The impact on human tissues is much smaller than that of unipolar mode. The safety of bipolar technology has been widely recognized, and its scope of use and indications are also constantly expanding.
Therefore, bipolar mode is often applied to more delicate minimally invasive surgeries such as neurosurgery, microsurgery, facial features, and laparoscopy.
Commonly used bipolar instruments include bipolar forceps, bipolar cutting needles, bipolar plasma cutting rings, large vessel occluders, etc.
High frequency Electrosurgery equipment can output high-frequency currents of various waveforms. When the high-frequency current waveform changes, the effect of current on tissues will also change.
